Palestinian Workers Organising for Justice and Liberation Beyond Ceasefire
In the wake of the ceasefire in Gaza, Palestinian workers have mobilised quickly to care for the wounded and begin the painstaking task of rebuilding what has been destroyed. Yet, the situation remains harrowing. Many families are still searching for loved ones buried under rubble, while the impacts of this genocide continue to unfold—lack of housing, food, sanitation, healthcare, and infrastructure. Even as Gaza faces this devastation, Israel’s attacks continue, now targeting Jenin and Tulkarm refugee camps in the West Bank.
This remains a time of urgency, and the call for action from Palestinian trade unions and workers is louder than ever.
We must sustain and expand the critical networks we have built, moving beyond the demand for a ceasefire to long-term and sustained organising that makes complicity with Israel impossible in all workplaces and unions. Democratically organised trade unions are one of the only spaces where ordinary people — rank and file workers — have a real voice and can make an impact on society through exercising our collective power.
Trade unionists also know what it means to organise to win. When governments have enabled and remained complicit in the genocide of the Palestinian people, workers everywhere must approach the fight for Palestinian freedom with the same determination and strategy. Internationalism is not an optional add-on; it is essential to the fight for justice. Freedom for Palestine is freedom for all workers. This means a world where benefits flow not to the arms industry and corporate managers but to those who work, build, and create the wealth of society.
We call on:
Labour Federations: Drop all your holdings in Israel. Divest now. Every investment in Israel contributes to the oppression of Palestinians. Take concrete action by reviewing pension funds, cutting financial ties, and publicly committing to ethical investment policies.
Workers and Trade Unionists: Every workplace and every union is a space for organising. For example, education unions can support Palestinian schools and universities in rebuilding efforts. Healthcare workers can organise medical aid, fundraise for hospitals, and advocate for the protection of Palestinian healthcare workers and infrastructure. Transport and logistics workers can refuse to handle Israeli goods, while tech workers can challenge corporate complicity in surveillance and arms production. Each sector can mobilise to both educate about conditions in Palestine and provide direct support to colleagues on the ground.
Workers Along Arms Supply Chains: The arms trade with Israel has not stopped. From weapons factories to transport and military research, halt the supply of weapons to this genocidal regime. Despite the announced ceasefire, this continues to be our most urgent need. It is a task we must take on together.
Keep organising: Organise in your workplace and union—educate colleagues and build rank-and-file networks. Share campaign demands, pressure institutions to act, and connect with Palestinian workers for concrete solidarity.
Workers in Palestine is committed to continuing and strengthening our coordination of international efforts, building on the vital trade union call from Palestine. We urge you to take action—get involved, reach out for resources, and stand in solidarity with us as we push forward in this struggle for justice, liberation and return.
